Etisalat confirms 4G LTE iPhone 5

Who-ho, a Dubai carrier that sells the iPhone may have just kissed good-bye its chances of doing business with Apple. According to GulfNews.com, the United Arab Emirate’s wireless operatoretisalat (yes, without capital “e”) has gone official today on a possible iPhone 5 launch. Here’s what their head of corporate communication said:

"Yes, we are in talks with most smartphone manufacturers including Apple on the rollout of the 4G handset, iPhone 5 later this year. As the first telecom organisation to roll out the 4G network, LTE, in the Middle East, we have already started talking to them for the handsets and chipsets in them.”

HP TouchPad, available July 1st, starting at $499

HP on Thursday announced that its HP TouchPad tablet will become available on July 1st. The TouchPad, which was first unveiled at a media event this past February, is the first webOS-powered tablet offering from HP. It features a 9.7-inch XGA display, a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and NFC capability that facilitates unique interactions between the slate and HP phones. Two versions of the TouchPad will be available initially: a 16GB version for $499.99 and a 32GB version for $599.99. HP also said a 3G model for AT&T will be available later this summer, though pricing has not been announced. Pre-orders for the Wi-Fi only models begin June 19th.

Dell working on a 7" tablet with a slide-out split keyboard

Whoa. Every so often, a giant in Round Rock pokes it head up above water long enough to put forth a truly mesmerizing design, and while it's no Adamo, this is most definitely the freshest take we've seen on tablets in a very, very long time. The gallery below showcases a prototype that's lounging around within Dell's top secret labs, a 7-inch slate that's adorned with a slide-out keyboard. Said keyboard, however, is hardly typical -- it's rocking a split-key design that's not at all dissimilar to the virtual layouts recently showcased within iOS 5 and Windows 8. So far as we can tell, the entire alphabet's present and accounted for, and there's a rear camera that'll be more than happy to make your child's next birthday party a bit more awkward. Outside of that, we've no other details to pore over, but it's safe to say that we'll be doing our darnedest to change that.

Lenovo releases the S800, a phone with a transparent, colored display

Let's face it; it is no longer enough for a mobile phone to be functional enough to handle all of today's mobile computing needs. In addition to that, consumers are demanding that their phones be designed to look like fashion statements in order to bring out their personal individuality and uniqueness. After all, with comments such as "my phone looks nicer than yours" flying around every so often when any discussion involving today's mobile communication devices is made, it would only make sense that manufacturers will want to one-up the competition by introducing various design elements which set their products apart from the competition. Which is exactly what Lenovo is attempting to do with its S800 mobile phone, which was announced last year and has been reportedly made available for retail in China recently.

iOS 5 jailbroken within hours of release

Yes you read that right, MuscleNerd of the iPhone Dev Team has posted some pictures on his twitter account, confirming the jailbreak works fine on iOS 5, but of course it is limited to tethered boot only, which means you will have to connect it to your computer on every reboot.

Apple released iOS 5 for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch yesterday at the WWDC conference in San Francisco. This new version of iOS brings over 200 new features, 10 among which are touted as key features, and includes: new revamped notifications system called ‘Notification Center’, Newsstand, Twitter integration, Safari Reader, Reading List, tabbed browsing for iPad, Reminders, Camera updates, Mail updates, built-in dictionary, PC-free (no cables required), OTA software updates, updates to Game Center, iMessage, AirPlay mirroring for iPad. EVO 4G and VIEW 4G get pricetags and release dates

The HTC EVO 4G was among the most popular Android devices of all time. During CTIA it was announced that Sprint would bring the next EVO flagship device of the year, the HTC EVO 3D. Not only was this stunning device going to come with outstanding specs, but it was also not coming alone. There was another addition to the EVO family, the HTC EVO View 4G (HTC Flyer with Sprint data connectivity), a tablet “like no other.” It feels like a long time since CTIA (though it has only been a few months), and now we know that the wait is almost over. Sprint has officially announced the price and release date for the HTC EVO 3D and the HTC EVO View 4G!

These devices will be available on June 24th, but they can be pre-ordered with the purchase of a $50 Sprint gift card, which can be used towards your purchase on release date (or you can use to purchase something else if you so choose to). The EVO 3D will go for $199.99, and the EVO View 4G will cost $399.99 (both with a two-year contract), which is actually not too bad. Competing high-end devices are going for $250-300 nowadays, so the fact that Sprint is keeping its price at $199.99 will really make the choice easier for many.

Of course, owning an Android device (or any smartphone OS, for that matter) has its requirements when it comes to your monthly plan subscription. As many of you may already know, the EVO 3D will be required to have one of Sprint’s Everything Data plans, along with a $10 Premium Data fee for smartphones. For the EVO View tablet, monthly data plans will start at $34.99 for 3GB of 3G data, but it also gives you unlimited 4G data (if you happen to be within coverage). Data plans for the EVO view also include unlimited text, picture, and video messaging. Having had the HTC Sensation in-hand for about a week, our unit has developed some troubling issues with its touchscreen. Namely, the panel often misses first presses, and also struggles with fast brushing movements.The first issue results in great frustration when typing, as auto-correction of words does not work without the first letter. It also means you often have to tap several times on icons on the homescreen to launch an application.

Droid Bionic sightings

The first look at the redesigned Droid Bionic is now online, coming in the form of four leaked "in the wild" images. Like we've heard, Motorola has changed things up a bit, most notably adding support for the laptop dock. The company had pledged additional handsets capable of connecting to the laptop and other docks, so we're glad to see them start with such a powerful Android phone.

Viewsonic's new 7-inch 250$ tablet

ViewSonic has expanded their Android offerings this morning with the announcement of a lower-cost tablet called the ViewBook 730. Dropping later this month, the 7-inch tablet runs Android 2.2 and features an ARM Cortex-A8 1Ghz processor, 8GB of memory, a front-facing VGA camera, Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g), and HDMI out. In terms of software, the ViewBook 730 will offer Adobe Flash, Amazon App Store, Twitter, Amazon's MP3 app, YouTube, Mediafly and Kindle. Like the HTC Evo View 4G, the Viewsonic tablet allows for a stylus, using RiteTouch technology on the 800x480 LED backlit screen.

Droid 3 leaked

We have heard a lot about the Droid 3 recently. We are still not certain when it will be released, but we know we are that much closer since three tutorial videos have leaked.

The videos confirm that the Droid 3 comes with an 8-megapixel camera and a camcorder that records up to 1080p. There is ia micro-USB and mini-HDMI to the left on the device and dedicated volume keys to the right. Swype will come pre-loaded.
